What is the Casa Kimberly in Puerto Vallarta?
To celebrate the next Valentine’s Day, anniversary, or birthday with your significant other, there is a place in Puerto Vallarta, México with everything you need. Yes, it is a hotel, but a pretty special one. This is the place where Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton famously vacationed and it was the love nest of the two legendary actors.
The Story of Casa Kimberly
It all began in 1962, with Burton filming John Huston’s classic The Night of the Iguana. The shoot was taking place in Puerto Vallarta. Taylor and Burton had already met two years before during the filming of Cleopatra. They were in the middle of a heated romantic controversy as both of them were married. Burton arranged for Taylor to stay in Casa Kimberly across from his own casita. He even had a bridge built between the houses to avoid the paparazzi and as an escape from their fights. For her 32nd birthday, Burton gave Elizabeth the house as a gift. For decades, the two actors, who married and divorced each other twice, made Casa Kimberly their love nest.
Burton died in 1984 and Elizabeth Taylor eventually sold the property in 1990.
The new owner Janice Chatterton explains that she redesigned the property and turned it into a luxurious hotel. It opened in December 2015.
The Casa Kimberly hotel features nine luxury suites, a boutique spa, a pool, and The Iguana Restaurant, named after Burton's film. It is designed to give guests a romantic view from expansive terraces. This and the Burton/Taylor romance makes this the perfect place for vacationing with your loved one. No children are allowed in Hotel Casa Kimberly.
