Qatar Becomes the Global Gateway for Overseas Travel

Qatar Becomes the Global Gateway for Overseas Travel

Qatar's national carrier, Qatar Airways, seems intent on helping Qatar become a global gateway for overseas travel. The first step towards becoming a true global gateway kicked off back in 2014 with the unveiling of the Hamad International Airport (HIA).

Considered as the "Runway to the future, Gateway to the World", the HIA features one of the world's longest commercial runways, the largest cargo facilities, superb catering facilities, and is one of the of the largest integrated Airport City projects worldwide.

The HIA is one of the serious efforts to integrate an international airport into the city. Unlike other international airports, the HIA was specifically built and designed to be a part of the city.

With Qatar Airways having positioned themselves as a global leader and one of the fastest growing airlines in aviation history, the HIA has since seen its flights expanded over the years. In particular, Qatar Airways has been working hard on adding flights to Canberra, Australia; Chiang Mai, Thailand; and Cardiff, UK, as well as many more, this past year. They recently added their fourth gateway to Chiang Mai, Thailand, in late 2017.

Qatar Airways is fully owned by the Qatari government, which gained full control of the award-winning airlines in 2013 after buying 50% of the stake held by other shareholders of the company including that of a former foreign minister.

Having operated for more than 20 years, Qatar Airways has grown to command a modern fleet consisting of 200 aircrafts flying across six continents. They have also received many awards, which includes winning their fourth "Airline of the Year" award from the 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards and being voted by travelers as the "World's Best Airline."
