Traveling into Pompeii is like entering a huge volume of an encyclopedia full of facts and pictures on ancient civilization. The information one comes across on art, customs and traditions of the yesteryears through the ruins one witnesses while in Pompeii is enormous. What is seen today is whatever remains of the ancient city that was buried under a layer of lava emanating from mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The day in history left a permanent scar on the face of the demography and the denizens of Pompeii.
The eruption of the volcano left the city submerged in ashes. The city was damaged by the burning and melting stones that emerged out of the volcano, but the damage was not extensive. Pompeii has been a popular tourist destination for tourists all over the world. There are estimates of it attracting about 2.5 million tourists each year. There are elaborate plots of land where people panted vegetables. Besides these areas are the dwellings of the humble peasants. But on the city limits, there are brothels and other places where travellers traveling through Pompeii experienced some amount of pleasure as a digression from the arduous task of traveling.
